Samsung has held multiple Gear™ VR development workshops in different parts of the country to teach high-quality introductory material to aspiring Gear™ VR developers. One of the more recent workshops was the Samsung Gear™ VR Development workshop at the annual SXSW in Austin, TX.
As a software engineer I was responsible for creating the technical material and demo applications in their entirety while working with a small design team. We created a sample application that was taught piecewise, so that students could learn the essential tools for creating exciting Gear™ VR applications in a structured fashion. The result was a fully-functional photo gallery/viewer that could read and display users' own photo libraries in addition to pre-selected images. It supported two viewing modes: selection (left and right) as well as a slideshow mode (advances on a timer).
